Hamburg

November 99

These first three photos were taken on my first visit to Hamburg. I went out on my birthday, which is Nov 4th for those of you who don't have it marked in your diary!

1. Note the nationality of the newspaper!

2. On the beach

December 99

This trip was from Thursday the 2nd of December to Sunday 5th December. I went with Rob and Elaine and we managed to pick a pretty wild weekend as far as weather goes! Our plane over was delayed for 2 hours - it couldn't leave Hamburg to come and collect us because of the wind. Click on the pictures for larger versions, and I'm looking for some good feedback from a local as to the best way to describe all the landmarks, I've got the names of the famous ones but if there's anything worthy of a better description let me know!

4. Came out strangely colourless. Not sure why.

5. Hamburg, nice view of the Alster.

6. Zoomed in on the city centre

7. Elaine, Kerstin and Rob. Yes, it was as cold as it looks!

8. Shame the flash didn't fire on this one, would have been a perfect description of the weather... :)

9. Hamburger Dom (apparantly famous fairground. cf Wigan pier)

10. The Fernsehturm tower... Is it me or is it slanted? ok ok, blame the photographer then...

11. An "arty" shot of Michel.

12. Check out the bells! Nice Santa impression Rob! ;) Oh, and Kerst, stop picking Elaine's nose please...

13. What the hell is that bird thing??

14. Looking towards the harbour from the bridge, on our way to the spice museum.

15. That thing again at the bottom! I like the way the clock-face is glinting in the sun.

16. Looking the other way from the bridge, with warehouses on both sides.

17. Check out the arty sunset! :) I'm not wholly convinced that the sky was really this colour!

18. A lighthouse.

19. The lighthouse again. As on the previous pic, the line of bushes sticking out of the water shows how high the water is.

20. Kerstin on the beach.

21. Another nice sunset. Would have been even better without that cloud so you could see all the branches in sillhouette though.

22. Lighthouse in sunset. The people at the bottom are quite cute. Had to retouch this to edit out an annoying white hair!

23. Yes girls, of course we know where we're going! ;) You wouldn't think such a flat city would have so many steps...

24. View of the harbour. Spent ages waiting for the flag to unfurl in the wind, and then missed the little bugger!

25. Elaine, Rob and Kerstin admiring the view.

March 2000

By now I'm getting used to this solo flying business! For once I actually had some nice weather too. It wasn't like this all the time though - I only took the camera with me when the sun was shining.

26. The famous fur! For those not in the know, it was bought in London over the mild objections of Shaun and I. Also a bit of Kerstin's flat

28. Looking cool by the Alster

31. The new blue jacket *and* the fur - enough to scare anyone!

32. This and the next two are in front of some graffiti that we decided to use for "arty poses" :)
