Amsterdam

[Hopefully I should have one or two more photos to add when Nige gets his film developed]

Nige and I spent a long weekend in Amsterdam in October 2000. I remember now why I didn't take any photos there last year, because it chucked it down with rain the whole time! The only dry day was on the Sunday, when we went to the beach at Zandfoort. Which was in the middle of a huge gale...

This is our hotel, which was not the biggest in the world! The first picture is stood with me right in the doorway, the second looking from one bed to the other.
We arrived on the Thursday in the evening. On Friday we met up with Anthea - and ended up helping her build the decor for the upstairs room at the DP Motions club night! Check out the very fetching red wig she wore for the occasion.

On Saturday we went over to Den Haag to visit Ina & Mark, but I don't have a single photo for two reasons: it was dark, and it was even wetter than Amsterdam - plus windy into the bargain! Sunday morning we went up to the top of some Science museum which has terraced steps up giving you great views. I tried to get a bit arty with the steps up and some water rippling in the wind but I'm not convinced they are the best arty shots I've ever taken! There's also Nigel stood on the steps, and a few pictures looking across the water to the city. The camera will be pointed vaguely south-west, with Centraal Station somewhere off to the right.

This should give you some idea how windy it was! There was a great mini-sandstorm which luckily was only below knee-level... Gives a cool white fog effect, especially in the last picture.

One day I'll go back and it won't be raining all the time, giving me a chance to get some photos of the city itself! We had fun getting back, there were really bad storms overnight which caused chaos at most of the UK airports. But after a long enough delay to know Schipol very well, we made it home without major mishap - and I even got there in time for the quiz! Which we won of course, in case you were wondering :)
